As some of you may know, Hack Club Arcade ended on August 31, 2024. As of the time of writing, more than 1000 hours still need to be reviewed. The Arcade Shop will be open until 5 September. In case you are wondering, Arcade is a special activity hosted by Hack Club during this summer holiday (America’s) that had more than 3000 ‘Arcaders’. See my post on Hack Club Arcade for more details.
In total, the ‘Arcaders’ did more than 15 years of programming in about 10 weeks. Arcade is an event in which teenagers (people under 18) get 1 ticket for every hour they ‘hack’ on self-directed projects. Of course, all the sessions had to be reviewed by volunteering ‘Arcade ticket reviewers’ to validate the sessions and get tickets. Tickets are used to redeem for stuff in the Arcade Shop like domains, soldering irons, drawing tablets, iPads, Laptops like Framework and MacBook, and there was even a Tesla Cybertruck for sale for, er, 700 tickets! Yes, 700 tickets! That means you need to do 700 hours of coding in 10 weeks, which means that you need to do 10 hours a day! And that’s assuming that you do Arcade from the start till the end of it, everyday! I don’t think anyone would have been able to do that!
Oh right. Speaking of prizes, I got several things from Arcade. I got a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, a Pinecil, 4 years of domain (qincai.xyz), 3 packs of Hack Club stickers, and 2 special Arcade stickers. My Raspberry Pi is in NZ now, but stuck in customs for more than 2 weeks now :(. One of my stickers have arrived, and the rest of the stickers are in the mail now and so is my Pinecil, which should arrive within a week.
Overall, the Hack Club Arcade was a very fun event. A big thank you to all the organisers and reviewers! I wish there would be Arcade v.2 next year (but it’s highly unlikely). Psst… Organisers of Arcade announced that #arcade is becoming #hack-hour and they said they are planning a new and fun activity for next week. I wonder what it is? Guess we have to wait and see…
