History of QinCai’s Website

Some time ago, in September 2023, I read about WordPress in a magazine called APC (Australian Personal Computer). I became very interested and soon, by the end of October 2023, I created an account on WordPress.com and got a website, raymontqin.wordpress.com. However, I did not do anything to it until May 5, 2024, when I posted ‘Hello World‘ on that site. That site should be down by the time you see this.

Fast forward two months and on July 1, 2024, I migrated my raymontqin.wordpress.com site to qincai.home.blog and named it “QinCai’s Blog”, still powered by WordPress.com. The new URL was (and is) much shorter than the old one and is easier to remember. Even the new site, qincai.home.blog, had a lot of limitations as it is hosted on the free WordPress.com plan. There were many (annoying) ads and banners on my site, so I decided to switch to a host and start using WordPress.org software.

Not long later after my last site, I found a (free!) hosting provider called InfinityFree and it seemed that WordPress could run on it. I registered and signed up for my first hosting account and downloaded the free FileZilla SFTP software. I then started downloading the WordPress.org software and uploading to the root of my domain. However, the uploading process took a LONG TIME and I do not want to wait.

I soon discovered that I could have installed WordPress using a software installer provided by InfinityFree, so I quit the uploading process and started the new method. Surprisingly, that method worked, and I was able to go to the /wp-admin of my new site in no more than 5 minutes!

Less than a month after I set up my InfinityFree website, my friend Devarsh told me about Hack Club. I was very interested in it so I joined. After a while, I learnt about the Hack Club Nest, and then I signed up for it and made a WordPress website in a Docker Container. On this brand-new site, I have 15GB of free storage (compared to the 5GB with the InfinityFree one), 2GB of RAM, and an ultra-fast i5-13500 CPU.

For those of you who haven’t discovered that the name of my website changed to “QinCai’s Website”, instead of the old “QinCai’s Blog”. This is because that I want to introduce more elements on my site, not only a blog.
